World Kidney Day Unites the Nephrology Community with WKD Webinar; Brussels’ Icon Dressed in WKD Colors
The ISN and the IFKF-WKA broadcast a World Kidney Day 2021 Webinar, “Living well with kidney disease,” bringing together the WKD community to mark the occasion despite ongoing restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A recording of the WKD Webinar will shortly be available on the ISN Academy.
ISN President Vivek Jha and IFKF-WKA President Siu-Fai Lui introduced the webinar highlighting the need to acknowledge the challenges for patients with kidney diseases and support symptom management and quality of life.
A series of presentations from both physicians and patients outlined the physical and psychological impact of kidney disease and queried the current disease-centric approach.
In the Q&A session that followed, the panelists called for the inclusion of life participation as a key focus in caring for CKD patients highlighting the need for meaningful communication with patients, and a holistic approach to treatment, including strategies for patient resilience and self-management.
To celebrate World Kidney Day (WKD), the ISN dressed the world-famous Manneken Pis fountain in Brussels in WKD colors to raise awareness of kidney health issues and activities.
